Field Hockey Edged by Simmons

BRIGHTON, Mass. – The Clark field hockey team (2-4) traveled to Simmons (5-1) for an early week match against the Sharks and were edged 4-0 on Tuesday night from Daly Field.
  • Simmons took an early 1-0 lead and less than three minutes later, sophomore Loren Root recorded a save off a shot from Sydney Gonyea.
  • Sophomore Jenna Beauchain took a penalty corner late in the first for the scarlet and white as the Sharks took a 1-0 edge into the second.
  • Root registered three early saves in the second quarter and off a penalty corner from Simmons, first-year Kami LaBella recorded a defensive save to keep the game tied at 1-0.
  • Sophomore Fionnuala Gormley nearly tied the game in the 26th minute with a shot that was saved by Haley Bright and Clark earned a pair of corners before the half, but the Sharks were able to defend as Simmons led 1-0 at the break.
  • The Sharks scored early in the third and senior Greer McCarty nearly cut the lead in half in the 39th minute with a shot that was stopped by Bright.
  • Beauchain took a corner early in the fourth and Root recorded a pair of saves, but Simmons came away with a 4-0 win.
