WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark field hockey team (2-5, 0-2 NEWMAC) played their first home NEWMAC match of the season against WPI (2-5, 2-0 NEWMAC) and fell to the Engineers 5-1 in Saturday afternoon from Granger Field.
- Sophomore Loren Root recorded the first save of the match in the fifth minute on a shot from Eve Martineau and sophomore Elizabeth Cacciapaglia registered Clark's first shot in the 10th minute that went just wide of the mark.
- Sophomore Ciaran Cubbage got Clark on the board in the 11th minute off a pass from Cacciapaglia to give the Cougars a 1-0 edge.
- Graduate student Greer McCarty nearly added to the lead in the 14th minute, but had the shot saved by Ella Moreau as Clark led 1-0 after one.
- Root registered a save early in the second quarter before the Engineers tied the game at 1-1 and recorded two more saves before the end of the quarter as WPI added a pair of goals to take a 3-1 lead into the half.
- Out of the half, WPI netted another goal before Clark earned a penalty corner that was taken by sophomore Jenna Beauchain.
- Before the end of the period, Root added another save and Cacciapaglia put a shot on target that was stopped as WPI led 4-1.
- Clark recorded a flurry of shots on target late in the fourth as sophomore Alison Kopec, Cacciapaglia, and Beauchain each had shots stopped as the Engineers won 5-1.
