Cubbage Nets Two Goals in Field Hockey's 2-1 Win Over St. Joe's (Ct.)

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark field hockey team (3-5) closed out a two-game homestand with an early week match against St. Joe's (CT) (1-7) and came away with a 2-1 victory on Tuesday night from Granger Field.

How it Happened
  • Senior Greer McCarty put a shot on target in the fifth minute that was stopped by Wendy Bowden and McCarty followed up a shot from teammate sophomore Fionnuala Gormley and both were saved to keep the score tied.
  • Clark earned a pair of penalty corners in the seventh minute that were serviced in by sophomore Jenna Beauchain and sophomores Alison Kopec and Elizabeth Cacciapaglia each had shots saved.
  • Sophomore Ciaran Cubbage gave Clark a 1-0 edge in the ninth minute off a feed from senior Rachael Romain.
  • Junior Autumn Golding put a shot on goal in the 20th minute that was stopped and sophomore netminder Loren Root recorded her first save of the contest in the 25th minute off a shot from Maya Tomko.
  • The Blue Jays tied the game before the half as Tomko found Aurelia Barker for the goal to make it a 1-1 game with less than five minutes to go in the second quarter.
  • Cacciapaglia had a shot saved just before the half as the game was tied 1-1 and early in the third quarter, McCarty put a shot on target that was stopped.
  • Gormley and Kopec continued to apply pressure to the Blue Jay backline with shots that were saved as the match remained tied heading into the fourth.
  • Cubbage opened the fourth with a shot on goal that was saved and with less than five minutes to play, McCarty sent a ball over to Cubbage from the top of the circle and Cubbage found the back of the cage to give the Cougars a 2-1 lead.
  • Root stopped a shot from Ariana Komonaj in the 59th minute to help propel Clark to a 2-1 victory.

  • Cubbage's goals were her third and fourth of the season and seventh and eighth of her career.
