WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark women's basketball team (14-6, 4-2 NEWMAC) traveled across town to WPI (10-10, 2-4 NEWMAC) and were bested 52-39 by the Engineers on Wednesday night from the Harrington Auditorium.
How it Happened
- WPI jumped out to an early 8-5 lead despite points from senior Jacqueline Faulise and first-year Kailey Rios and a pair of junior Kumi Tamura free throws kept the deficit at three at 10-7 with 2:27 remaining in the first.
- Sophomore Ashley Leighton scored Clark's final points of the first quarter as WPI led 15-8 and a free throw from senior Alaina Schatzabel in the beginning of the second to make it a 15-9 contest with 8:18 to play.
- Defense controlled the rest of the quarter as Tamura scored the Cougars other bucket in the period with a left elbow jumper as the Engineers took a 22-11 edge into the half.
- WPI pushed the lead to 16 before Schatzabel made a left-handed layup with 6:35 to play in the third and a pair of jumpers from Alexis Ross made it a 32-17 contest with 3:06 remaining in the period.
- First-year Olivia Shipley and Faulise each scored before the end of the quarter as the Cougars trailed 39-21 heading into the fourth.
- Rios hit a triple on the first possession of the fourth to cut the deficit to 15 at 39-24 and a made layup from Ross made it a 41-28 game with 7:02 to play.
- Faulise made a pair of free throws to get within 12 and a layup with 2:40 remaining got Clark within 11 at 47-36.
- Tamura scored Clark's final points of the game with a three-pointer as the Cougars fell 52-39.

- Clark grabbed 39 rebounds, dished out five assists, registered six steals, and forced 19 turnovers.
- Faulise netted a team-leading 10 points and grabbed seven rebounds.
