Faulise Records Double-Double in 70-67 Win Against Eastern Nazarene

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark women's basketball team (9-4) welcomed Eastern Nazarene (7-8) to the Kneller for a non-conference fixture on Saturday afternoon and came away with a 70-67 win against the Lions.

How it Happened
  • Eastern Nazarene jumped out to an early 7-2 lead despite a made jumper from first-year Olivia Shipley before a pair of made triples from junior Kumi Tamura tied the game at 9-9 with 5:19 remaining in the first.
  • The Lions scored five unanswered before sophomore Ashley Leighton made a layup and after Eastern Nazarene took a 19-11 edge, Clark scored 10 unanswered led by six points from first-year Kailey Rios and a made three-pointer from Tamura gave the Cougars a 21-19 edge.
  • Eastern Nazarene scored nine straight points to open the second quarter to take a 31-23 lead with 5:42 to go in the period before Clark held the Lions to one point for the remainder of the quarter as the Cougars rattled off 12 points sparked by seven points from first-year Catherine Antwi, a made triple from senior Jacqueline Faulise, and a layup from senior Alexis Ross as the scarlet and white led 35-32 at the half.
  • With the game tied at 37-37, Faulise connected on a triple off a feed from graduate student Sarah Zambrano gave Clark a lead, but the Lions ripped off five unanswered before Leighton and Rios each scored to give the Cougars a 47-46 edge with 5:04 left in the third.
  • Faulise scored Clark's next six points and buckets from Ross and Rios before the end of the third helped the Cougars and Lions were tied at 58-58 heading into the fourth.
  • Shipley and Antwi scored five of the first seven points in the fourth to give Clark a 63-60 edge and a Faulise layup extended the lead to 65-60 before Eastern Nazarene tied the game at 65-65 with 7:30 to play.
  • Both defenses controlled the game over the next six minutes as neither team scored before Faulise scored five points in the final minute of the game to give Clark a 70-67 victory over Eastern Nazarene.

  • Clark grabbed 47 rebounds, dished out 17 assists, registered 14 steals, and forced 31 turnovers.
  • Faulise registered a double-double, with 21 points and 12 rebounds.
  • Rios added 12 points and an assist.
  • Antwi also reached double-figures with 10 points and three steals.

The scarlet and white will open up conference play on Saturday with a road contest at Wellesley beginning at 1:00 p.m.
