WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University volleyball team (10-7) welcomed crosstown foe Worcester State (5-14) to the Kneller for a midweek non-conference match against the Lancers and cruised to a 3-0 victory on Thursday night.
The Cougars took the first set 25-11, won the second set 25-15, and closed the match out with a 25-15 victory in the final set.
How it Happened
- The scarlet and white jumped out to an early 5-0 lead as graduate student Sofia Scherrer del Llano recorded a pair of kills and senior Yvanna Torres added a kill and a service ace.
- After the lancers tallied a point, Clark responded with eight unanswered sparked by kills and blocks from senior Camille Sterling, graduate student Victoria Pastor as well as a service ace from Scherrer del Llano extended the advantage to 13-1.
- First-year Isabella Alcott, Pastor, graduate student Camille Flurry, sophomore Katelyn Williams, and Sterling all recorded kills over the remainder of the set off passes from Torres and sophomore Julia Dopazo as the Cougars took the first set 25-11.
- The scarlet and white jumped out to a 10-8 lead in the second set led by kills from Scherrer del Llano, Pastor, and Sterling as well as a service ace from junior Yumeng Liu.
- Pastor tallied three kills, a kill from sophomore Harper Chinn, and another Liu service ace extended the edge to 20-15.
- Over the remainder of the set, Clark scored five straight points as Chinn/Sterling combined for a block, first-year Hannah Harrington registered a service ace, and Sterling recorded a kill as the Cougars took the set 25-15.
- The scarlet and white jumped out to a 12-3 advantage led by kills from Scherrer del Llano, Sterling, Alcott, Pastor as well as a pair of service aces from Dopazo.
- Pastor then added a kill and a service ace before Flurry tallied a kill and a combined block with Sterling to give Clark a 17-8 edge.
- Kills from Scherrer del Llano, Sterling, and Chinn as well as a service ace from Harrington helped guide the Cougars to a 25-15 win in the final set.
Inside the Stats
- Clark recorded 38 kills, 11 aces, three blocks, 37 assists, and 39 digs.
- Pastor tallied a team-leading 11 kills.
- Sterling and Scherrer del Llano each added eight kills.
- Torres (19) and Dopazo (13) led the squad in assists.
- Liu registered a team-leading 14 digs and three service aces.
- All 16 Cougars appeared in the match.
