Men's Soccer Suffers Setback at Coast Guard

NEW LONDON, Conn. - Clark men's soccer (4-5-4, 0-3-1 NEWMAC) traveled to Coast Guard (4-5-4, 0-3-1 NEWMAC) for a Saturday clash with the Bears and dropped the match 2-0 from Nitchman Field.

How it Happened
  • Seniors William Lopez and Lucas Saia each put shots on goal that were saved by John Putnam in the first seven minutes of play before Naveen Jayareem found the back of the net to give the Bears a 1-0 lead.
  • Andres Villasana added to the Coast Guard lead in the 14th minute and in the 15th minute, junior Ben Siegel nearly tied the match with a shot on target that was saved by Putnam.
  • Siegel and senior Zachary Kratz each had shots stopped before the end of the first half as the Cougars offense applied constant pressure despite trailing 2-0.
  • Junior Diego Marin stopped six shots over a seven-minute stretch in the second half and Lopez created Clark's final chance of the match in the 72nd minute that was saved.

  • Clark attempted 16 shots (six on target) and earned three corner kicks.
  • Siegel and Lopez each recorded two shots on goal.
  • Marin tallied six saves.
