WELLESLEY Mass. – The Clark University volleyball team (11-8, 4-3 NEWMAC) traveled to Wellesley (8-6, 3-4 NEWMAC) for a conference contest and dropped the match 3-1 to the Blue on Saturday afternoon from the Dorothy Towne Fieldhouse.
The Cougars fell 25-21 in the first set, took the second set 25-22, dropped the third set 25-23, and were edged 25-17 in the final set.
How it Happened
- The Cougars jumped out to an early 7-6 lead in the first set led by kills from first-year Isabella Alcott and senior Camille Sterling before the Blue scored four unanswered points.
- Down 17-11, Clark rattled off four straight points as graduate students Victoria Pastor and Camille Flurry recorded blocks and kills to bring the Cougars within two at 17-15.
- Pastor and Sterling tallied kills down the stretch in the set, but the Blue pulled away with a 25-21 victory in the first.
- The scarlet and white led 9-5 in the second set sparked by kills from graduate student Sofia Scherrer del Llano, Pastor, and Flurry as well as service aces from Scherrer del Llano and junior Yumeng Liu.
- Senior Emily Newman recorded a block and four more kills from Scherrer del Llano extended the advantage to 15-10 and kills from Pastor kept the edge at five at 19-14.
- Pastor and Scherrer del Llano each registered two kills down the stretch off assists from senior Yvanna Torres and sophomore Julia Dopzazo as Clark took the set 25-22.
- Clark held an early 8-7 advantage in the third set as Pastor and Dopazo each tallied kills and a service ace from Dopazo.
- Flurry and Sterling each recorded kills later in the set as Clark led 18-13, but the Blue ended the set on a 12-5 run despite kills from Torres and Pastor as Wellesley won the set 25-23.
- The Cougars led 8-5 in the fourth set as Sterling and Pastor registered kills and Dopazo collected a service ace.
- Wellesley rallied to go up 13-9 before Pastor, Alcott, and Sterling each recorded kills to pull Clark back within one at 14-13, but the Blue rallied to win 25-17 in the final set.

- Clark recorded 44 kills, four aces, three blocks, 43 assists, and 65 digs.
- Pastor led the way with 17 kills and added nine digs.
- Scherrer del Llano added eight kills and 13 digs.
