Field Hockey Converts Three Penalty Corners in Thrilling 3-1 Win Over Salve Regina

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University field hockey team (7-8, 2-5 NEWMAC) opened their week with three penalty corners that found the back of the cage against Salve Regina (11-4, 4-3 NEWMAC) as the Cougars came away with a thrilling 3-1 victory on Tuesday night from Granger Field.

How it Happened
  • Sophomore Rachel Reiter recorded a pair of saves on the middle of the first quarter before junior Morgan Brown created the Cougars first chance of the evening in the 11th minute that was saved by Bryn Protheroe.
  • In the 14th minute, junior Jenna Beauchain sent in a penalty corner that found the stick of fellow junior Elizabeth Cacciapaglia and Cacciapaglia sent it back to Beauchain who found the back of the cage as Clark took a 1-0 lead.
  • Reiter registered two saves in the second quarter as the Clark defense continued to help hold a shutout as the Cougars led 1-0 at the half.
  • Graduate student Greer McCarty added to the lead in the 37th minute when fellow graduate student Rachael Romain sent in a shot that was tipped in by McCarty as Clark held a 2-0 lead.
  • In the 44th minute, Beauchain sent in another penalty corner that found Romain and Romain sent a ball in that was finished by junior Alison Kopec to give the scarlet and white a 3-0 edge heading into the fourth.
  • After Julia Decker got Salve Regina on the board in the fourth with a shot that beat Reiter, Reiter came away with two enormous saves down the stretch as Clark recorded a 3-1 win.

  • Clark recorded 14 shots (seven on target) and earned six penalty corners.
  • Beauchain's goal was her fifth of the season and fifth as a Cougar.
  • Cacciapaglia tallied her seventh assist of the year and ninth in the scarlet and white.
  • McCarty scored her seventh goal of the season and 24th of her career.
  • Romain dished out her second and third assist of the year and now has nine career helpers.
  • Kopec netted her first goal of the campaign and third as a Cougar.
  • Reiter registered seven saves in the contest.
