Cacciapaglia Scores Game-Winning Goal in 1-0 Shutout Victory Over Wellesley

WELLESLEY, Mass. – The Clark University field hockey team (8-8, 3-5 NEWMAC) earned their second consecutive conference victory as junior Elizabeth Cacciapaglia scored the lone goal in the game as the scarlet and white came away with a 1-0 win over Wellesley (9-8, 4-4 NEWMAC) on Saturday afternoon from Butler Stadium.

How it Happened
  • Sophomore Rachel Reiter stopped five shots in the first quarter and Cacciapaglia put a shot just wide of the mark in the period as the team's played to a scoreless tie after 15:00 minutes of action.
  • The Cougars prevented the Blue from scoring on a pair of penalty corners in the second quarter and Reiter recorded two saves as the teams entered the half tied at 0-0.
  • In the 32nd minute, Clark earned a penalty corner and junior Jenna Beauchain sent the ball into the circle before Cacciapaglia had a shot saved by Maddie Miller, but Cacciapaglia stuck with the play and found the back of the cage to give the Cougars a 1-0 advantage.
  • Reiter stopped two shots before the end of the period and graduate student Greer McCarty sent a shot just wide of the goal as Clark took a 1-0 lead into the fourth quarter.
  • The Cougars defense stood tall in the fourth quarter as they fought off eight penalty corners, including six in the final two minutes of play and Reiter saved four shots in the quarter as the scarlet and white battled to a 1-0 win over the Blue.
