Women's Soccer Drops Home Match to Mount Holyoke

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University women's soccer team (3-10-2, 0-6-2 NEWMAC) welcomed Mount Holyoke (4-4-5, 1-4-3 NEWMAC) to Granger for a midweek NEWMAC contest and conceded a first half goal as they fell 1-0 on Wednesday night.

What Happened
  • First-year Georgia Louis got around the Lyon defense in the 11th minute and nearly gave Clark the lead, but saw her shot saved by Evie Krieg to force a corner kick.
  • Both midfields controlled the pace of play over the next 20 minutes before Sage Hudson found Jenny Romero up the pitch and Romero found the back of the net as the Lyons led 1-0 in the 32nd minute.
  • Off a corner serviced in by first-year Selene Hammad, senior Ashlee Samuel almost tied the match with a shot that was stopped by Krieg.
  • Louis created the Cougars final chance of the half with a shot on target that was saved as Mount Holyoke held a 1-0 edge at the half.
  • Senior Anabella White recorded a save in the 63rd on a shot from Taryn White before first-year Selene Hammad nearly tied the match in the 71st minute with a header that was stopped by Krieg.
  • Sophomore Ainsley Golini put a header just high a minute later and in the closing minutes, Louis and senior Ashlee Samuel each attempted shots, but Mount Holyoke prevailed 1-0.

What's Next
Clark will return to the pitch on Saturday when they travel to Emerson for a conference match beginning at 1:00 p.m.
