Volleyball Overpowered by Unbeaten MIT

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Clark University volleyball team (12-10, 5-4 NEWMAC) traveled to MIT (25-0, 9-0 NEWMAC) for their lone NEWMAC game of the week and dropped the match 3-0 to the Engineers on Tuesday night from Rockwell Cage.

The Cougars fell 25-17 in the first set, 25-11 in the second set, and 25-17 in the deciding set.

How it Happened
  • Clark trailed 11-7 early in the first set despite blocks from senior Camille Sterling, first-year Isabella Alcott, and graduate student Camille Flurry and kills from Sterling, graduate students Sofia Scherrer del Llano and Victoria Pastor.
  • Scherrer del Llano and Pastor combined for five kills over the remainder of the set and Alcott/Sterling combined for a block as well as a service ace from sophomore Harper Chinn as the Cougars fell 25-17.
  • In the second set, Pastor, Flurry, Scherrer del Llano, and Sterling all recorded kills off assists from senior Yvanna Torres and sophomore Julia Dopazo as the squad dropped the second set 25-11.
  • Sterling, Pastor, and Flurry each tallied kills early in the third set and a service ace from junior Yumeng Liu guided Clark to 7 points as they trailed 15-7.
  • Scherrer del Llano, Alcott, and Sterling registered kills down the stretch and Scherrer del Llano added a pair of service aces as Clark dropped the final set 25-17.

  • Clark recorded 24 kills, five aces, four blocks, 24 assists, and 52 digs.
  • Pastor and Scherrer del Llano each registered seven kills.
  • Alcott tallied a team-leading three blocks.
  • Torres (14) and Dopazo (9) led the squad in assists.
