Pastor Joins the 1,000 Kill Club in 3-0 Win Over Mount Holyoke on Senior Day

WORCESTER, Mass. – Graduate student Victoria Pastor became the fifth player in program history to join the 1,000 kill club as the Clark University volleyball team (13-10, 6-4 NEWMAC) swept Mount Holyoke (13-12, 2-8 NEWMAC) on senior night from the Kneller Gymnasium.

Seniors Emily Newman, Yvanna Torres, and Camille Sterling were honored prior to the match for their contributions to the women's volleyball program.

The Cougars won the first set 25-16, took the second set 28-26, and topped the Lyons 25-16 in the final set.

How it Happened
  • The scarlet and white jumped out to a 7-3 lead as Sterling, graduate student Sofia Scherrer del Llano, and Pastor recorded her 1,000th career kill off feeds from Torres.
  • Pastor and Torres each added service aces and two more kills from Pastor, Scherrer del Llano, and Sterling helped extend the advantage to 16-8.
  • Newman, Pastor, and graduate student Camille Flurry recorded kills down the stretch and a block from both Newman/Flurry helped the Cougars seal the first set 25-16.
  • Mount Holyoke held an early 12-7 lead in the second set despite kills from Torres, Pastor, and Flurry before Clark rattled off four straight points off Scherrer del Llano and Flurry kills as well a pair of service aces from sophomore Harper Chinn to make it a 12-11 contest.
  • After four straight Lyon points, the Cougars went on a 10-2 run as Sterling/Scherrer del Llano each tallied a block and kill as well as a service ace from junior Yumeng Liu as Clark led 21-18.
  • Scherrer del Llano led the way with three kills over the remainder of the second set and Pastor tallied two more kills as the Cougars won the set 28-26.
  • The Cougars jumped out to a 9-7 lead in the third set as Scherrer del Llano, Newman, Flurry, and Pastor recorded kills.
  • After a Mount Holyoke point, Clark scored five straight points as Alcott, Sterling, Scherrer del Llano, and Torres all collected kills to put the Cougars up 14-8.
  • Scherrer del Llano, Sterling, and Pastor all added kills and a Scherrer del Llano service ace helped give the scarlet and white a 19-10 edge.
  • Sterling, Newman, Pastor, and Flurry closed the door on the Lyons with kills as Clark came away with a 25-16 win.
Inside the Stats
  • Clark recorded 44 kills, eight aces, five blocks, 40 assists, and 45 digs.
  • Pastor led the team with 12 kills and added six digs.
  • Scherrer del Llano also reached double-figures with 11 kills and five digs.
  • Torres (23) and Newman (15) led the squad in assists.
  • Liu led the team with 19 digs.
  • Flurry (8) and Sterling (7) added over seven kills each.
What's Next
The Cougars will close out the regular season with a road match on Saturday morning against Coast Guard at 11;00 a.m. and then take on Brandeis at 1:00 p.m.
