Men's Soccer Concedes Late Goal in Loss to MIT

WORCESTER, Mass. - Clark men's soccer (4-4-3, 0-2-1 NEWMAC) stormed back to tie the match in the second half, but allowed a goal in the 87th minute as the Cougars fell 3-2 to MIT (6-6-0, 1-2-0 NEWMAC) on Saturday afternoon from Granger Field.

How it Happened
  • Junior Diego Marin recorded a pair of saves within the first eight minutes of play off shots from Shikhar Motupally and Ethan Reich before Jonah Gurion gave the Engineers a 1-0 lead off a volley.
  • First-year Joseph Joannou sent a header just wide of the mark in the 21st before MIT extended their lead to 2-0 off a goal from Aidan Hallinan.
  • Senior Lucas Saia nearly cut the deficit in half with a shot that hit the crossbar and junior Mauro Perez Colon had a shot stopped by Paolo Mangiafico right before the break as MIT led 2-0.
  • First-year Graham Summers brought the Cougars back within one after beating the Engineer defense as Clark trailed 2-1 in the 58th minute.
  • Joannou, junior Ben Siegel, and sophomore Evan Thompson each had shots saved before senior Colin Ruiz found the back of the net off a pass from sophomore Luca Echeumuna in the 83rd minute.
  • MIT's Jack Minor clinched the victory for the Engineers with a goal off a pass from Ethan Reich in the 87th minute as they came away with a 3-2 win.
