Reiter Records Career-High 27 Saves in Loss to Smith

NORTH HAMPTON, Mass. – The Clark University field hockey team (5-6, 1-3 NEWMAC) traveled to Smith (2-9, 1-3 NEWMAC) and suffered a 4-0 defeat to the Pioneers despite a career-high 27 saves from sophomore Rachel Reiter on Tuesday night from the Smith Turf Field.

How it Happened
  • Junior Jenna Beauchain took an early penalty corner for the Cougars and sent the ball over to graduate student Rachael Romain, who sent the ball just wide of the goal to keep the match tied.
  • Reiter recorded four saves in the middle of the first quarter before Callahan Day was able to get Smith on the board with a goal off a feed from Karlie Guimond in the 11th minute,
  • After Reiter stopped two more shots before the end of the first quarter and early in the second senior Autumn Golding took a penalty corner and sent the ball in to junior Elizabeth Cacciapaglia, with Cacciapaglia's shot getting blocked in the 21st minute.
  • Over the final nine minutes of the second quarter, Reiter tallied five more saves as the Pioneers took a 1-0 lead into the half.
  • Reiter stopped a pair of shots off penalty corners to begin the second half before Ellie Szostalo extended Smith's lead to 2-0 in the 34th minute.
  • The sophomore netminder recorded nine more saves over the rest of the period and with less than 30 seconds to go in the third, Laura Dreher found the back of the cage as the Pioneers took a 3-0 edge into the fourth.
  • Cacciapaglia nearly got Clark on the board with a shot off a corner that was saved by Kyleigh Poot and Romain had a shot stopped by Emma Newman.
  • Reiter tallied six saves in the fourth quarter as the Cougars fell 4-0 with the final Pioneer goal coming off the stick of Guimond.
