Balanced Offensive Attack Leads Women's Basketball Past Hartford

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The Clark women's basketball team (6-0) remained unblemished behind a balanced offensive attack with a 76-64 victory over Hartford (0-3) on Friday night from the Chase Family Arena.

How it Happened
  • The Cougars jumped out to an early 9-6 lead as sophomore Kailey Rios connected on a made three-pointer before graduate students Alaina Schatzabel and Jacqueline Faulise scored and sophomore Emma Drefs added a layup.
  • Rios hit two more triples before the end of the quarter and a Faulise free throw helped Clark take a 16-10 lead into the second quarter.
  • After Hartford pulled to within three at 18-15, Faulise and sophomore Catherin Antwi combined to score the next six points of the game as the Cougars held a 24-15 edge with 4:55 remaining in the second.
  • Faulise led the team with three points down the stretch in the period, while sophomore Olivia Shipley, Antwi, and Drefs each added two points as the scarlet and white took a 33-26 lead into the half.
  • Hartford scored the first 10 points of the third quarter to take a 36-33 edge before Rios made a layup and graduate student Alaina Schatzabel made a free throw to tie the game at 36-36 with 5:53 to play in the third.
  • Clark then went on an 8-4 run led by four points from Shipley and points from both Faulise and Antwi to five the Cougars a 44-40 advantage.
  • Shipley, Antwi, and Drefs all scored down the stretch of the third quarter, with a Shipley jumper giving Clark a 56-47 edge heading into the fourth.
  • Schatzabel and first-year Cyriah Coleman both scored to open the fourth as the Cougars pushed their lead to double-digits at 59-49 with 7:48 to play.
  • After four unanswered from the Hawks, Faulise hit a pair of free throws and Rios connected on a three-pointer before Anwtwi netted five points to give Clark a 69-58 advantage with 4:45 remaining.
  • Antwi and Rios combined to score seven points down the stretch as the Cougars came away with a 76-64 victory over Hartford.

  • Clark grabbed 44 rebounds, dished out 15 assists, registered 16 steals, and forced 22 turnovers.
  • Rios led the way with 19 points, five made three-pointers, and three assists.
