Men's Basketball Jumps Out to Early Lead, Prevails 72-61 Over Husson

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University men's basketball team (3-3) blitzed Husson (2-4) early and never looked back as the Cougars came away with a 72-61 victory in their final game before Thanksgiving on Tuesday night from the Kneller Gymnasium.

How it Happened
  • Clark jumped out to an early 10-5 lead sparked by three-pointers from junior Reid Neumann and graduate student Jordan Richard as well as layups from seniors Kekoa McArdle and Bruce Saintilus.
  • The scarlet and white went on a 10-0 run and held the Eagles scoreless over the next four minutes as Neumann hit a pair of threes and sophomore Quentin Pridgen connected on a triple as the Cougars held a 20-5 edge with 12:59 remaining in the first half.
  • Saintilus and first-year Boluwasefe John scored Clark's next four points before a McArdle free throw extended the advantage back to 15 at 25-10 with 8:36 to play.
  • Husson cut the deficit to seven sparked by six points from Ty Henke before a three-pointer from Saintilus pushed the lead back to double-digits at 30-20.
  • Senior Ian Calabrese scored five of the Cougars final six points of the half as Clark took a 36-24 lead into the half.
  • McArdle hit a pair of free throws and Richard connected on a three-pointer to open the second half before a layup from John extended their advantage to 43-30 with 15:50 remaining.
  • After the Eagles cut the deficit to seven before Calabrese connected on a triple to push the lead back to 10 and after nine unanswered from Husson, Saintilus ended the run with a made layup as Clark led 49-45.
  • Neumann hit another triple before Saintilus stormed down the lane for a monster slam as the scarlet and white held a 54-50 edge with 7:05 to play.
  • Connor Heald brought the Eagles back within one at 54-53 before Saintilus and Pridgen combined to score the contests next four points to push the lead back to five.
  • Gil Matondo converted an and-one layup with 6:00 remaining as Clark led 58-56 before the Cougars scored six unanswered sparked by four points from John extended the advantage to 64-56.
  • Husson again rallied to pull within five at 66-61, but Neumann and Pridgen combined to hit six free throws down the stretch, while holding the Eagles scoreless over the final 1:45 of action as Clark prevailed 72-61.
Inside the Box Score
  • The Cougars grabbed 55 rebounds, made 10 three-pointers, dished out 14 assists, and recorded 12 steals.
  • Saintilus led the squad with 18 points and pulled down seven rebounds.
  • Neumann connected on four three-pointers and hit a pair of free throws for 14 points.
  • John also reached double-figures with 10 points and grabbed seven rebounds.
  • Pridgen tallied a team-leading 14 rebounds while adding nine points and four assists.
