Third Quarter Rally Lifts Women's Basketball Past Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, 66-63

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Clark women's basketball team (7-1) played their first of two contests in California against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (2-4) on Friday night and rallied in the second half to come away with a 66-63 win from Roberts Pavilion.

How it Happened
  • The Cougars jumped out to an early 7-0 lead as sophomore Kailey Rios connected on a triple and points from both graduate students Alaina Schatzabel and Jacqueline Faulise before a jumper from first-year Cyriah Coleman extended the edge to 9-4.
  • After Claremont pulled within one, sophomore Olivia Shipley added a bucket, but the home squad took a 15-11 lead entering the second quarter.
  • Trailing by six, first-year Alysa Bordonaro and Rios both scored to pull the Cougars within three and a made layup from Schatzabel, Coleman, and sophomore Catherine Antwi all scored as Clark led 22-20.
  • Antwi, scored Clark's final four points of the half as the Cougars trailed 29-26 at the break.
  • After losing by six, Faulise and Antwi combined to score the next seven points for the Cougars to take a 36-35 edge with 6:21 remaining in the third.
  • Coleman netted Clark's next six points before made shots from sophomore Emma Drefs, Antwi, and Coleman again have the scarlet and white a 51-47 lead entering the fourth.
  • Rios and Coleman each scored to open the fourth to extend the edge to 55-49 and after a run from Claremont, Antwi connected on a three-pointer off a steal as Clark led 59-55 with 4:44 remaining.
  • After trailing by two with 3:25 remaining, Rios hit a three-pointer and points from both Coleman and Rios down the stretch helped the scarlet and white capture a 66-63 victory.

  • Clark grabbed 30 rebounds, dished out 11 assists, registered nine steals, and forced 19 turnovers.
  • Coleman led the squad with 18 points and six rebounds.
  • Antwi added 17 points, three steals, and three rebounds.
  • Rios also reached double-figures with 15 points and a pair of made three-pointers.

Clark will be back in action tomorrow night when they close out their trip in California with a game at Pomona-Pitzer at 8:00 p.m.
