Women's Basketball Falls to Pomona-Pitzer

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Clark women's basketball team (7-2) closed out their two-game road trip to California with a contest at Pomona-Pitzer (6-2) and despite leading at the break, dropped the contest 63-57 on Saturday night from Voelkel Gymnasium.

How it Happened
  • The Cougars jumped out to an early 9-8 lead sparked by five points from first-year Cyriah Coleman and buckets from both graduate students Alaina Schatzabel and Jacqueline Faulise.
  • After trailing by five, the scarlet and white went on a 12-0 run led by five points from Coleman, three from sophomore Catherine Antwi, as well as baskets from both first-year Juliette Tarsa, and Faulise as Clark led 21-14.
  • Schatzabel, Antwi, and Coleman combined to score the Cougars next six points and three points before the half from sophomore Emma Drefs helped Clark take a 30-27 lead into the half.
  • After Pomona-Pitzer took a lead out of the break, Faulise connected on a three-pointer and a layup from Faulise with 5:20 left in the second gave the Cougars a 37-36 edge.
  • Pomona-Pitzer ended the quarter on a 13-2 run, with the Clark points coming from Faulise and a triple from sophomore Kailey Rios hit a three-pointer to pull the Cougars within nine at 51-42.
  • Antwi, Coleman, Schatzabel, and Faulise scored the first seven points of the fourth, with a Faulise three-pointer as Clark trailed 54-49 with 6:15 remaining.
  • After five straight points from Pomona-Pitzer, Coleman netted five and a pair of Faulise free throws helped the Cougars within three at 59-56 with 1:35 to play.
  • Coleman scored Clark's final point of the game as the scarlet and white fell 63-57.
Inside the Box Score
  • Clark grabbed 38 rebounds, dished out 13 assists, registered 13 steals, and forced 19 turnovers.
  • Coleman led the team with 19 points and added six rebounds.
  • Faulise tallied 18 points while also collecting six rebounds.
  • Schatzabel recorded nine rebounds and six points.

The Cougars will return to the court on Saturday afternoon with a road contest at Williams beginning at 3:00 p.m.
