Volleyball Clinches Fourth Seed With 3-0 Win Over Coast Guard

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University volleyball team (14-11, 7-4 NEWMAC) clinched the fourth seed in the NEWMAC Tournament with a 3-0 win over Coast Guard (17-9, 6-5 NEWMAC) before dropping a match to Brandeis (15-11) on Saturday from Roland Gymnasium.

No. 4 Clark will host No. 5 Babson on Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. in the NEWMAC Quarterfinals from the Kneller Gymnasium. Clark has now appeared in the last four NEWMAC Tournaments and will be the first time the Cougars have hosted a NEWMAC playoff game since 2016 as well as record seven conference victories.

  • The Cougars took the first set 25-22, won the second set 25-16, and closed out the match in the third set with a 25-21 victory.
  • Clark recorded 43 kills, 39 assists, six service aces, and 72 digs.
  • Graduate student Victoria Pastor led the team with 17 kills and added 12 digs.
  • Fellow graduate student Sofia Scherrer del Llano tallied nine kills and 16 digs.
  • Seniors Emily Newman (17) and Yvanna Torres (15) led the squad in assists.
  • Junior Yumeng Liu added a team-leading 17 digs and five assists.
  • Senior Camille Sterling registered eight kills and led the team with five blocks.
Brandeis 3, Clark 1
  • Clark took the first set 25-23, fell 25-17 in the second set, dropped the third set 25-15, and lost the final set 25-12.
  • The Cougars recorded 34 kills, four aces, four blocks, 30 assists, and 48 digs.
  • Pastor led the squad with 13 kills and added a block.
  • Graduate student Camille Flurry registered seven kills and two blocks.
  • Torres (16) and Newman (10) led the team in assists.
  • Liu added 21 digs and first-year Isabella Alcott tallied eight.
What's Next
The Cougars will begin the NEWMAC Tournament on Tuesday night when they welcome Babson to the Kneller for a contest beginning at 7:00 p.m.
