Six in Double-Figures as Women's Basketball Tops Alfred, 83-62

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark women's basketball team (8-4) closed out the 2024 portion of their schedule with a convincing 83-62 victory over Alfred (6-3) on Sunday afternoon from the Kneller Gymnasium.

How it Happened
  • The Cougars jumped out to an early 15-2 lead sparked by five points from graduate student Alaina Schatzabel, three points from sophomore Kailey Rios, first-year Cyriah Coleman, and graduate student Jacqueline Faulise as well as a sophomore Emma Drefs layup.
  • After five straight points from the Saxons, Clark ended the period on a 6-0 run as Coleman, sophomore Catherine Antwi, and Rios all made layups to give the Cougars a 21-7 advantage.
  • Faulise connected on a three-pointer to open the second before a layup from senior Megan Swedberg helped extend the lead to 28-12 with 6:17 to play in the period.
  • Rios and Antwi each buried three-pointers before the half as the scarlet and white took a 36-21 lead into the half.
  • Coleman, Schatzabel, and Faulise combined to score Clark's first nine points of the second half before a made triple from Drefs pushed the lead to 48-31 with 5:48 remaining in the third.
  • Antwi and Faulise responded with a pair of three-pointers and buckets from sophomore Olivia Shipley, Drefs, and Rios before the end of the period gave the Cougars a 62-43 edge heading into the fourth.
  • Schatzabel, Coleman, and Drefs netted Clark's first six points of the fourth quarter before a layup from Faulise helped the Cougars extend the lead to 70-51.
  • Faulise, Rios, Coleman, Drefs, and junior Ashley Leighton combined to score Clark's final 13 points of the game as the Cougars came away with an 82-63 win.

  • Clark grabbed 48 rebounds, dished out 22 assists, and forced 18 turnovers.
  • Faulise led the team with 18 points and added nine rebounds.
  • Rios added 15 points, including three triples.
  • Coleman registered 13 points, a team-high five assists, and five rebounds.
  • Drefs (11), Schatzabel (10), and Antwi (10) also reached double-figures for the Cougars.
What's Next
Clark will return to the court for their second of a four-game homestand on Saturday, January 4 when they welcome Brandeis to the Kneller for a contest beginning at 3:00 p.m.
