Women's Basketball Opens 2025 Portion of Schedule With Setback Against Brandeis

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark women's basketball team (8-5) opened the 2025 portion of their schedule against Brandeis (6-4) and fell 75-60 to the Judges on Saturday afternoon from the Kneller Gymnasium.

How it Happened
  • The two teams played to an early 6-6 tie as first-year Cyriah Coleman and sophomore Kailey Rios each scored three points before the Judges scored seven straight points.
  • Coleman and first-year Juliette Tarsa netted the Cougars final four points of the quarter as the team trailed 18-10, but sophomore Catherine Antwi and graduate student Alaina Schatzabel netted the first five points of the second quarter.
  • Coleman and Rios combined for the Cougars final eight points of the half, sparked by a triple from Coleman as the Judges ended the quarter on a 6-0 run to take a 35-23 advantage into the half.
  • Senior Megan Swedberg and Schatzabel combined for Clark's first four points of the third before Coleman scored seven over the remainder of the period as Brandeis won the period by seven and took a 55-36 lead into the fourth.
  • The Cougars outscored Brandeis 24-20 in the fourth led by eight points from Schatzabel, five from Antwi, five from Drefs, and two from Coleman/Tarsa/first-year Alyssa Bordonaro as Clark fell 75-60.
Inside the Box Score
  • Clark grabbed 39 rebounds, made 24 free throws, dished out eight assists, and forced 18 turnovers.
  • Coleman led the way with 19 points and added three rebounds.
  • Schatzabel also reached double-figures with 13 points and grabbed seven rebounds.
  • Drefs pulled down a team-high 12 rebounds and scored five points.
  • Antwi led the squad with three steals and scored nine points.

Clark will continue their homestand when they close out non-conference play on Tuesday, January 14 with a contest against Connecticut College beginning at 7:00 p.m.
