Men's Lacrosse Opens 2024 Season With 10-5 Win Against Curry

MILTON, Mass. – The Clark University men's lacrosse team (1-0) opened their 2024 season with a convincing 10-5 victory over Curry (0-1) on Saturday morning from Katz Field.

How it Happened
  • Graduate student Dylan Harloff opened the game with three saves in the first minute of play before senior Colin Howard found fellow senior Patrick Liddy and Liddy put the ball in the back of the cage with 6:32 to play in the first quarter.
  • First-year Harry Gorman added to the lead off a pass from Liddy late in the first quarter gave Clark a two-goal lead and Gorman's second goal of the contest off a feed from junior Matt Wells gave the Cougars a 3-0 lead with 11:45 remaining in the second.
  • Senior Matthew Minkwitz scored the fourth goal of the game as Clark's offense continued to apply constant pressure to put the Cougars up 4-0.
  • After a save from Harloff, the Colonels got on the board before Liddy's second goal of the contest off a feed from senior Attilio LaVecchia extended the lead to 5-1 with 4:32 to go in the second.
  • Curry scored before the half to make it a 5-2 contest and after a Colonel goal out of the half, Clark scored three unanswered goals in the third as junior Mason Kaufmann, Howard, and Wells each joined the scoring sheet as the Cougars held an 8-3 lead.
  • Minkwitz added his second goal of the game early in the fourth off a pass from sophomore Brett Newman to go up 9-3 and Minkwitz completed the hat trick with 0:16 to play as the scarlet and white came away with a 10-5 victory.

  • Clark attempted 51 shots (22 shots on goal), scooped up 26 ground balls, won 13 faceoffs, and forced 20 turnovers.
  • Minkwitz led the way with three goals and six shots on goal.
  • Gorman and Liddy each recorded two goals and dished out an assist.
  • Wells and Howard each tallied one goal and an assist.
  • Harloff registered 12 saves in the contest.
  • Sophomore Patrick O'Rourke won nine faceoffs.
