Box Score DUDLEY, Mass. – The Clark University men's lacrosse team (1-1) closed out their two-game road trip on Wednesday night against Nichols (1-0) with a 12-8 loss to the Bison from Vendetti Field.
How it Happened
- Junior Matt Wells gave Clark an early 1-0 lead with a man-up goal off a feed from senior LaVecchia and a goal from senior Patrick Liddy gave the Cougars a 2-0 advantage with 8:18 to play in the first quarter.
- Graduate student Dylan Harloff recorded a pair of saves in goal before the Bison scored a pair of goals within 13 seconds to tie the game at 2-2 and before the end of the period, Harloff stopped Joseph Turpin's shot as the team's remained tied.
- After the Bison took a 3-2 edge, Wells found senior Matthew Minkwitz and Minkwitz put the ball in the back of the cage as the Cougars tied the game at 3-3 with 6:42 to go in the half.
- LaVecchia gave Clark a 4-3 lead with a man-up goal off a pass from Liddy less than a minute later, but Nichols scored three unanswered before the half as Bison led 6-4 at the break.
- Minkwitz netted his second goal of the game less than 30 seconds into the third quarter off a feed from LaVecchia to make it a 6-5 contest.
- After a Nichols goal, Wells scored a man-up goal, with the assist going to Minkwitz as the Cougars pulled back within one at 7-6 with 6:55 to play in the third.
- The Bison scored the final two goals of the third despite shots on goal from Liddy and senior Colin Howard that were saved as Nichols led 9-6.
- Liddy opened the fourth with a goal off a feed from Howard to pull Clark back within two at 9-7, but despite four Harloff saves, the Bison netted two unanswered to take an 11-7 edge.
- Minkwitz brought the Cougars within three at 11-8 with a man-up goal off a pass from LaVecchia with 3:16 to play, but the Bison held Clark without another goal downs the stretch as Nichols recorded a 12-8 victory.
