Women's Lacrosse Opens 2024 With 13-10 Victory Over Gordon

WENHAM, Mass. – The Clark University women's lacrosse team (1-0) opened their 2024 season with a come-from-behind 13-10 win over Gordon (0-2) on Friday night from the Brigham Complex.

How it Happened
  • Graduate student Kiley Simmons put the game's first shot on goal less than a minute into the game that was saved before the Fighting Scots scored a goal with 13:02 to play in the first.
  • First-year Kami LaBella netted Clark's first goal of the year less than a minute later on a free position shot and after sophomore Victoria Holden's first save of the year, Gordon their second goal to go up 2-1 with 9:45 remaining in the quarter.
  • After the Fighting Scots extended the lead to 3-1, Simmons cut the deficit to one with a shot early in the second quarter as Clark trailed 3-2.
  • Gordon scored three unanswered goals before graduate student Elizabeth Liakos scored a man-up goal and a goal from Simmons off a feed from junior Erin Lucas right before the half got the Cougars within two at 6-4 heading into the break.
  • The scarlet and white opened the third quarter with four unanswered goals as Liakos, LaBella, junior Meghan Fogarty, and graduate student Sophie Didier all scored, with three of the goals coming on man-up opportunities as Clark held an 8-6 lead with 6:32 to play in the third.
  • After a Gordon goal, Fogarty and Simmons each scored off passes from Didier and Liakos to take a 10-7 advantage with 3:16 left in the period.
  • The Fighting Scots tallied two more goals before the end of the third to pull within one at 10-9 and early in the fourth, Didier added a man-down goal to extend the lead back up to 11-9.
  • Liakos scored two of the contest's final three goals of the game as the scarlet and white came away with a 13-10 victory over Gordon.

  • Liakos led the way with four goals and dished out two assists, while forcing a turnover.
  • Didier scored two goals and added two assists.
  • Simmons netted a hat trick and scooped up four ground balls.
  • LaBella and Fogarty each added the other two goals.

What's Next
The scarlet and white are scheduled to play their first home game of the season on Wednesday beginning at 4:00 p.m. against Colby-Sawyer.
