Women's Lacrosse Edged 14-9 by Colby-Sawyer

 WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University women's lacrosse team (1-1) played their 2024 home opener when they welcomed Colby-Sawyer (1-1) to Granger and were edged 14-9 by the Chargers on Wednesday night.

How it Happened
  • Sophomore Victoria Holden opened the game with a save on a shot from Olivia Romo and after three Charger goals, graduate student Elizabeth Liakos scored off a pass from junior Erin Lucas to make it a 3-1 game after one quarter of play.
  • Junior Meghan Fogarty opened the second quarter with a goal to get Clark back within one at 3-2 and after another Holden save, the Chargers added a goal.
  • Down 4-2, Liakos netted her second goal of the night off a pass from graduate student Sophie Didier to get within one at 4-3 before Colby-Sawyer rattled off five goals before the half as they led 9-3.
  • First-year Kami LaBella and Liakos each scored early in the third quarter to make it a 10-5 contest before the Chargers netted another goal to go up 11-5.
  • Clark then scored the contests next three goals as Liakos, sophomore Elizabeth Cacciapaglia, and junior Aubrey Conners got the Cougars back within three at 11-8 with 4:32 to go in the third.
  • Colby-Sawyer however would score to three times to open the fourth and at the end of the period, Conners scored the team's ninth goal of the game off a feed from Didier as Clark fell 14-9.
Inside the Box Score
  • Clark attempted 27 shots, forced 26 turnovers, scooped up 26 ground balls, and won 11 draw controls.
  • Liakos led the way with four goals and scooped up a pair of ground balls.
  • Conners added two goals and attempted five shots.
  • Didier led the team with three assists.
  • Holden and junior Annie Battle combined to make five saves.
What's Next
The Cougars will return to the field on Saturday with a home game against Bard beginning at 1:00 p.m.
