Men's Lacrosse Falls to UMass Boston on Wednesday Night

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University men's lacrosse team (2-2) closed out a two-game homestand with a non-conference game against UMass Boston (2-0) and fell 13-9 to the Beacons on Wednesday night from Granger Field.

How it Happened
  • Senior Patrick Liddy put the first shot on target of the game and had his shot saved by James Boldy before UMass Boston scored the first goal of the night.
  • Senior Colin Howard netted Clark's first goal of the game off a feed from first-year Tate Gorman and three saves from senior Casey McCullough kept the Cougars within one before senior Attilio LaVecchia scored off a feed from fellow senior Matthew Minkwitz tied the game at 2-2 after one quarter of play.
  • After a man-up goal from the Beacons, LaVecchia responded with a goal off a feed from junior Matt Wells to tie the contest at 3-3 and Wells netted a man-up goal off a dish from senior Colin Howard as Clark went up 4-3 late in the second quarter.
  • Minkwitz then added a goal from Wells before the half and McCullough recorded two more saves before the break as the teams entered the half tied 5-5.
  • Minkwitz opened the third quarter with a goal off a feed from LaVecchia to go up 6-5, but the Beacons rattled off six unanswered goals before Wells added a goal to end the run as Clark trailed 11-7 with 1:24 remaining in the third.
  • Howard scored a goal early in the fourth off a dish from Wells and Minwitz netted a goal off a Howard assist pulled Clark within four at 13-9 with 7:11 to play.
  • Sophomore Brett Newman put Clark's final shot on target towards the end of the game as they fell 13-9.
