Men's Lacrosse Drops NEWMAC Opener to MIT

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Clark University men's lacrosse team (3-5, 0-1 NEWMAC) opened conference play on Saturday afternoon against MIT (2-3, 1-0 NEWMAC) and fell 18-9 from Roberts Field.

How it Happened
  • The Engineers jumped out an early 1-0 lead before graduate student Dylan Harloff recorded three saves and after another MIT goal, senior Patrick Liddy found the back of the net to make it a 2-1 contest with 8:46 to play in the first.
  • Senior Matthew Minkwitz had a pair of shots saved and senior Colin Howard had a shot stopped as the Cougars trailed 4-1.
  • Minkwitz found Howard to open the second quarter and a goal from junior Matt Wells pulled the Cougars back within one goal at 4-3 with 8:28 remaining in the period.
  • The Engineers ended the quarter with five unanswered goals despite five saves from senior Casey McCullough as MIT took a 9-3 edge into the half.
  • McCullough stopped a pair of shots to open the second half, but the Engineers rattled off five goals to open the third before Howard scored off a feed from first-year Tate Gorman.
  • In the fourth quarter, the Cougars outscored MIT 5-3 as sophomore Thomas Michaud, first-year John Golioto, Howard, first-year Eric Aswad, and senior Attilio LaVecchia each scored as Clark fell 18-9.
