Women's Lacrosse Edged by Wheaton in NEWMAC Opener

NORTON, Mass. – The Clark University women's lacrosse team (3-3, 0-1 NEWMAC) opened NEWMAC play at Wheaton (4-3, 1-0 NEWMAC) and were edged 15-4 by the Lyons on Saturday afternoon from Nordin Field.

How it Happened
  • Clark jumped out to an early 1-0 lead as junior Aubrey Conners netted a goal with 8:56 to play in the quarter.
  • After two unanswered goals from the Lyons, graduate student Elizabeth Liakos scored off a feed senior Angela Borelli to tie the game at 2-2.
  • Junior Erin Lucas nearly gave the Cougars a lead with 2:04 remaining, but Katie Geis came away with a save on the shot as the two teams remained tied entering the second quarter.
  • Wheaton netted a pair of goals early in the second quarter before a free position goal from Liakos cut the deficit to one at 4-3.
  • Junior Annie Battle recorded two saves before the half and a shot from senior Greer McCarty had a shot saved as the Lyons led 6-3 heading into the break.
  • After Wheaton scored five goals to open the third quarter, junior Saorla Scully ended the run with a goal with 2:17 remaining in the third as the Lyons took a 12-4 lead into the fourth.
  • Battle recorded a save in the fourth and senior Sophie Hayes and Lucas each had shots saved as Clark fell 15-4.

  • Clark attempted 17 shots, forced 18 turnovers, scooped up 24 ground balls, and won 10 draw controls.
  • Liakos led the team with two goals, including a free position goal.
  • Scully and Conners also netted goals.
