WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University women's lacrosse team (5-3, 1-1 NEWMAC) welcomed Wellesley (2-6, 0-2 NEWMAC) to Granger for their Women in Sports Game and came away with a come-from-behind 14-10 win on Saturday afternoon.
How it Happened
- Graduate student Kiley Simmons nearly put Clark on the board in the first minute of the game, but had her shot saved before Mallory Kennison put Wellesley up 1-0 with 11:53 remaining in the first.
- Graduate student Elizabeth Liakos tied the game two minutes later, but the Blue responded with two goals and another Liakos goal with 4:10 to play in the period as the Cougars trailed 4-2.
- Before the end of the first quarter, sophomore Elizabeth Cacciapaglia found a cutting junior Aubrey Conners and Conners found the back of the cage as the Blue took a 5-3 edge into the second quarter.
- Junior Annie Battle registered a pair of saves early in the second before Cacciapaglia and junior Erin Lucas each scored to tie the game at 5-5 with 5:20 left before halftime.
- The team's traded goals before the break, with a Clark goal from Liakos off a feed from Simmons as the team's entered the half tied at 6-6.
- Simmons and first-year Kami LaBella opened the third quarter with goals to take an 8-6 advantage, but Wellesley ended the quarter with three unanswered goals to take a 9-8 lead into the fourth.
- Conners tied the game up at 9-9 early in the fourth and a man-up goal from Liakos off a feed from Lucas as the Cougars took a 10-9 lead with 10:27 to play.
- After Wellesley tied the game at 10-10, Clark ended the game with four unanswered goals as Liakos, Cacciapaglia, and a pair of goals from LaBella propelled the Cougars to a 14-10 win over Wellesley.
