Women's Lacrosse Bested by No. 19 MIT on Wednesday

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University women's lacrosse team (5-4, 1-2 NEWMAC) welcomed No. 19 MIT (7-1, 2-0 NEWMAC) to Granger on Wednesday afternoon and fell 23-2 to the Engineers.

How it Happened
  • Junior Annie Battle recorded a pair of saves early in the contest before Gwen Flusche and Julianne Flusche gave the Engineers a 2-0 lead.
  • After three more Battle saves, first-year Kami LaBella nearly got the Cougars on the board with a free position shot that was saved by Pauline Vien as MIT took an 8-0 lead into the second quarter.
  • Seniors Lucy Szpila and Mary Greene forced turnovers early in the second quarter and with 6:18 to play in the period, graduate student Elizabeth Liakos had her shot saved.
  • After trailing 13-0 at the half, Liakos got the scarlet and white on the board with a man-up goal off a free position shot.
  • Sophomore Victoria Holden stopped two shots in the remainder of the third, junior Saorla Scully caused a turnover, and junior Aubrey Conners netted Clark's second goal of the game with 2:00 remaining in the quarter.
  • In the fourth quarter, Holden stopped three shots, senior Sophie Hayes caused a turnover, and graduate student Sophie Didier had a shot saved as the Cougars fell 23-2.

  • Clark forced 16 turnovers, scooped up 17 ground balls, and won eight draw controls.
  • Liakos and Conners netted the two Clark goals.
  • Greene (5) and senior Greer McCarty (4) led the team in ground balls.
