Springfield Tops Women's Lacrosse on Friday Night

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Clark University women's lacrosse team (5-5, 1-3 NEWMAC) played their final game of the week against Springfield (8-2, 4-0 NEWMAC) and dropped the match 19-2 to the Pride on Friday night from Stagg Field.

How it Happened
  • Senior Lucy Szpila scooped up a ground ball early for the Cougars and junior Aubrey Conners nearly put Clark on the board four minutes into the game, but had her shot saved as Clark trailed 3-0.
  • Junior Annie Battle registered three more saves in the first quarter and first-year Kami LaBella, Conners, and graduate student Elizabeth Liakos each put shots on goal that were saved as the Pride took a 10-0 edge into the second quarter.
  • Early in the second quarter, junior Erin Lucas had a shot stopped before Liakos netted a free position goal with 6:17 to go in the period.
  • Sophomore Victoria Holden stopped two shots in the third quarter and one in the fourth.
  • Graduate student Kiley Simmons added Clark's second goal of the game off a free position shot and sophomore Elizabeth Cacciapaglia had a shot saved.
Inside the Box Score
  • Clark forced 14 turnovers, scooped up 15 ground balls, and won nine draw controls.
  • Liakos and Simmons scored the two Cougar goals.
  • Junior Saorla Scully led the team with three ground balls.
  • Elizabeth Cacciapaglia registered a team-leading three draw control victories.
  • Battle recorded four saves and Holden added three.
What's Next
Clark will return to the field on Wednesday when they travel to Babson for a road NEWMAC contest beginning at 7:00 p.m.
