WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University men's lacrosse team (3-8, 0-3 NEWMAC) competed in their first home NEWMAC game of the season against Coast Guard (2-7, 1-2 NEWMAC) couldn't withstand a late rally by the Bears as the Cougars fell 13-11 from Granger Field on Saturday night.
How it Happened
- Graduate student Dylan Harloff recorded five saves early in the game and after a Bear goal, Clark responded with three straight goals as senior Patrick Liddy, senior Attilio LaVecchia (from senior Matthew Minkwitz), and first-year Tate Gorman (from sophomore Thomas Michaud) gave the Cougars a 3-1 edge.
- Harloff added two more saves before the end of the period, but the Bears netted five unanswered goals to take a 6-3 advantage, with the run eventually being stopped by senior Colin Howard (from Michaud) as Clark trailed 6-4 with 2:20 remaining in the half.
- Right before the break, junior Matt Wells found a cutting Minkwitz and the senior put the ball in the back of the net as the Cougars trailed 6-5 at the half.
- Gorman tied the game early in the third quarter at 6-6, but the Bears responded with two unanswered goals to go up 8-6.
- Clark answered with four straight goals over the final 5:30 of the quarter as Wells (from LaVecchia), junior Ryan Kerr, Michaud, and Wells (from Howard) helped give the scarlet and white a 10-8 advantage heading into the fourth.
- After a goal to open the fourth brought the Bears within one, Michaud off a feed from Minkwitz pushed the edge back to two at 11-9 with 11:10 remaining.
- Despite two more saves from Harloff and shots on target that were saved from LaVecchia and Minkwitz, Coast Guard rallied to score four straight goals to win 13-11.
