Men's Lacrosse Drops Road Contest at Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Clark University men's lacrosse team (3-9, 0-4 NEWMAC) traveled to Springfield (3-8, 2-2 NEWMAC) in a Saturday NEWMAC clash, but fell 13-5 to the Pride from Stagg Field.

How it Happened
  • Senior Casey McCullough recorded an early save and after a goal from the Pride, first-year Tate Gorman netted a goal off a feed from sophomore Brett Newman to tie the game at 1-1.
  • McCullough stopped three more shots before the end of the first quarter and in the second quarter, junior Matt Wells, seniors Matthew Minkwitz and Attilio LaVecchia each had shots saved as the scarlet and white trailed 5-1.
  • Senior Patrick Liddy found senior Colin Howard for the Cougars second goal of the game and after two more McCullough saves, senior Byron Palmieri scored off a feed from graduate student Zachary Conant as Clark were behind 8-3.
  • McCullough stopped five more shots before the end of the quarter and Howard put a shot on target that was saved as the Cougars trailed 9-3 entering the fourth.
  • In the fourth quarter, Minkwitz and Howard each scored as the Cougars fell 13-5 to the Pride.

  • Clark attempted 25 shots, scooped up 24 ground balls, and converted 25 clears.
  • Howard scored two goals and put five shots on goal.
  • Minkwitz and Gorman each recorded a goal and an assist.
  • Palmieri scored and Newman dished out an assist.

What's Next
The Cougars will return to the field on Saturday afternoon when they host Wheaton beginning at 1:00 p.m. in the Renny Classic.
