Women's Lacrosse Tops Husson 11-8 in Spring Break Opener

CLEARWATER, Fla. – The Clark University women's lacrosse team (3-1) opened their spring break trip with a convincing 11-8 victory over Husson (0-2) from Philip Jones Field on Tuesday morning.

How it Happened
  • Graduate student Elizabeth Liakos opened the game with a goal less than a minute in after junior Meghan Fogarty won the draw control as the Cougars jumped out to a 1-0 lead.
  • Liakos netted her second goal of the game with 9:44 to go in the first on a free position attempt and scored her hat trick on a man-up opportunity off a pass from fellow graduate student Sophie Didier to take a 3-0 advantage.
  • After the Eagles got on the board with a goal, Fogarty scored a free position goal to extend the lead to 4-1 and a pair of saves from junior Annie Battle before the end of the first quarter helped the Cougars take a 4-1 edge into the second quarter.
  • Battle recorded a save in the second quarter and Liakos put a shot on target that was saved as the Eagles were able to tie the game at 4-4 heading into the half.
  • First-year Kami LaBella gave Clark the lead less than three minutes into the third quarter and after a Husson goal, junior Aubrey Conners gave the Cougars a 6-5 lead with 11:16 to go in the period.
  • Dider found the back of the goal with 7;37 remaining in the third to go up 7-5 and Fogarty had a shot saved before the end of the quarter as Clark led 7-6 going into the fourth.
  • Liakos opened the fourth with a free position goal and junior Erin Lucas scored a man-up goal to go up 9-6 with 9:12 remaining.
  • Husson netted two straight goals to get within one and after a free position save from sophomore Victoria Holden, Didier and sophomore Elizabeth Cacciapahlia each scored as the Cougars came away with an 11-8 victory.

  • Clark attempted 28 shots, forced 23 turnovers, scooped up 22 ground balls, and won 12 draw controls.
  • Liakos led the way with four goals and put six shots on target.
  • Didier added two goals and a pair of assists.
  • LaBella, Cacciapaglia, Lucas, Conners, and Fogarty also scored in the game.
  • Senior Mary Greene and LaBella each scooped up three ground balls.
  • Senior Greer McCarty, LaBella, and senior Lucy Szpila each caused two turnovers
  • Holden recorded four saves and Battle added three.
