BOSTON, Mass. – The Clark University women's lacrosse team (6-7, 2-5 NEWMAC) exploded for 16 first half goals as the scarlet and white came away with a convincing 18-11 victory over Emerson (4-7. 1-5 NEWMAC) on Wednesday night from Rotch Field.
How it Happened
- The scarlet and white jumped out to an early 1-0 lead as junior Erin Lucas scored off a feed from first-year Kami LaBella less than two minutes into the game.
- LaBella scored Clark's next two goals with one coming on a man-up opportunity and the other off a free position attempt as the Cougars led 3-0.
- The Cougars continued their hot start with a pair of goals from graduate student Elizabeth Liakos and one from graduate student Sophie Didier as Clark took a 6-0 advantage.
- Emerson then scored three straight goals, but Clark then added two goals with one coming from Lucas off a pass from sophomore Elizabeth Cacciapaglia and the other from Liakos as Clark led 8-4 after one quarter of play.
- The Cougars blitzed the Lions with six goals to start the second quarter as Lucas, Liakos, Didier, and Cacciapaglia all scored with Liakos and Didier scoring twice as Clark extended the lead to 14-4 with 7:07 to play in the second.
- LaBella scored Clark's final two goals of the half as the Cougars took a commanding 16-5 edge into the break.
- Senior Greer McCarty scored early in the third quarter off a pass from Cacciapaglia before junior Annie Battle stopped three shots.
- Senior Angela Borelli netted Clark's final goal of the evening in the fourth as the Cougars came away with an 18-11 win.
