Women's Lacrosse Drops Senior Day Game to Salve Regina

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University women's lacrosse team (7-8, 3-6 NEWMAC) hosted their senior day game against Salve Regina (10-6, 4-5 NEWMAC) and fell 12-9 to the Seahawks on Saturday afternoon from Granger Field.

Seniors Greer McCarty, Sophie Hayes, Lucy Szpila, Mary Greene, and Angela Borelli were honored for their contributions to the women's lacrosse program.

How it Happened
  • The Seahawks jumped out to an early 1-0 lead before graduate student Elizabeth Liakos netted a man-down goal to tie the game at 1-1.
  • Fellow graduate student Sophie Didier found Liakos for a man-up goal later in the first to go up 2-1 before Salve scored three goals at the end of the first to take a 4-2 lead into the second quarter.
  • Clark tied the game at 4-4 early in the second quarter as Liakos scored a man-down goal and found a cutting graduate student Kiley Simmons with 12:00 to go in the second.
  • Junior Annie Battle stopped a pair of shots in the second before Salve took a 6-4 lead and right before the half, Clark scored three unanswered goals as first-year Kami LaBella scored two goals and Liakos added another goal as the Cougars took a 7-6 lead into the half.
  • The Seahawks tied the game early in the third before Battle stopped a pair of shots to keep the game tied before Salve took an 8-7 edge with a goal late in the period.
  • Down 9-7, McCarty won a draw control and Liakos found junior Erin Lucas for a goal to pull Clark back within one at 9-8 with 13:00 remaining.
  • The Seahawks scored again to push the lead back to two before sophomore Elizabeth Cacciapaglia scored with 8:19 to go to get back within one at 10-9.
  • Salve's defense held up the remainder of the game as the Cougars fell 12-9.

  • Liakos led the team with four goals and two assists.
  • Cacciapaglia won four draw controls, forced four turnovers, scooped up three ground balls, and scored a goal.

What's Next
