Field Hockey Opens 2024 With 2-0 Shutout Victory Over Worcester State

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark field hockey team (1-0) traveled across town for a contest against Worcester State (0-1) to open up 2024 and came away with a 2-0 victory over the Lancers on Saturday afternoon from Coughlin Field.

How it Happened
  • Junior Loren Root registered three saves in the first five minutes of play off shots from Kate Harrison, Allison Keenan, and Kaelin Coleman to keep the game tied at 0-0.
  • After two more saves from Root, senior Autumn Golding put Clark's first shot on goal of the game that was stopped as the team's entered the second quarter scoreless.
  • Junior Ciaran Cubbage got Clark on the board early in the second quarter off a feed from fellow junior Alison Kopec to give the scarlet and white a 1-0 edge.
  • First-year Kelsey Gallaway recorded her first career shot on goal in the 21st minute that was saved by Madison Ferrara.
  • Root stopped another shot and Kopec had a shot saved before the half as the scarlet and white held a 1-0 advantage.
  • Cubbage nearly extended the Cougars lead in the 37th minute with a shot that was saved and Clark's offense continued to apply constant pressure, earning a pair of corners before the end of the period as they took a 1-0 lead into the fourth.
  • Graduate student Greer McCarty, Cubbage, and junior Elizabeth Cacciapaglia each rifled shots on goal that were stopped early in the fourth before junior Jenna Beauchain scored on a penalty stroke to give the Cougars a 2-0 edge in the 59th minute, which was the final goal of the contest.
