WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark field hockey team (1-1) played their first home game of 2024 when they welcomed NEC (3-0) to Granger and despite taking an early lead, dropped the match 3-1 to the Pilgrims on Wednesday night.
How it Happened
- Junior Loren Root recorded the game's first save in the third minute off a chance in front of the cage from Meaghan McCamish.
- Graduate student Greer McCarty got the Cougars on the board with a goal right in front of the goal off a feed from junior Morgan Brown in the 11th minute to give the scarlet and white a 1-0 edge.
- Root registered three crucial saves over an 11-second stretch to keep the lead and in the 22nd minute, Brown put a shot on goal that was stopped by Mackenzie Anderson.
- The Pilgrims tied the game up before the half when McCamish scored off a dish from Kylee Henriquez.
- In the 36th minute, McCarty nearly scored her second goal of the game, but Anderson got her pad there in time.
- NEC took a 2-1 lead in the 42nd minute when Kate Bourgeois found Tatum Golis and right before the end of the third, Root came away with a save to keep the same score heading into the fourth.
- Junior Ciaran Cubbage applied pressure early in the fourth and put a shot on target that was saved before Root registered two more critical stops.
- Junior Jenna Beauchain serviced a corner in the 51st minute, battled to the front of goal, and put a pair of shots on target that were stopped by Anderson.
- McCarty recorded the team's final shot attempt of the game in the 58th minute before NEC added another goal to come away with a 3-1 victory.
