KEENE, N.H. – The Clark University volleyball team (4-3) traveled to Keene State (3-3) for an early week non-conference contest and came away with a 3-1 victory over the Owls on Tuesday night from Spaulding Gymnasium.
The Cougars took the first set 28-26, fell 28-26 in the second set, won the third set 25-11, and registered a 25-19 victory in the final set.
How it Happened
- Keene State jumped out to a 10-7 lead in the first set despite kills from graduate student Sofia Scherrer del Llano, graduate student Camille Flurry, first-year Isabella Alcott, senior Camille Sterling, and graduate student Victoria Pastor.
- In the middle of the first set, Clark rattled off seven straight points as Alcott and Sterling each registered two kills off feeds from senior Yvanna Torres to take a 18-14 edge in the set.
- Pastor recorded four kills over the rest of the set and with the set tied at 26-26, Pastor tallied a kill and Alcott clinched the set with a service ace as they took the set 28-26.
- The Cougars jumped out to an early 11-1 sparked by kills from sophomore Winifred Gakidis, Torres, Alcott, and Pastor and later extended the edge to 15-5 with another kill from Pastor.
- Keene State rallied to win the set 28-26 despite points from Pastor, Gakidis, sophomore Katelyn Williams, Alcott, Sterling, and Scherrer del Llano.
- Clark rallied in the third set with 12 of the first 14 points led by Scherrer del Llano, Alcott, Pastor, and Sterling all tallying kills.
- Flurry, Sterling, and Pastor combined to score the contests next three points as the Cougars held a 17-3 edge and junior Yumeng Liu helped the team clinch the set with a service ace and digs to come away with 25-11 win in the third set.
- The scarlet and white jumped out to an early 6-2 led by a pair of service aces and two more Alcott kills.
- Scherrer del Llano, Pastor, Flurry, and Scherrer del Llano tallied kills in the middle of the set to help Clark hold a 13-12 edge in the fourth set.
- Down 14-13, the Cougars scored seven straight points as Scherrer del Llano and Alcott tallied kills to put Clark up 20-14.
- Alcott closed the match with a kill off a pass from sophomore Julia Dopazo as the scarlet and white took the final set 25-19.
Inside the Stats
- Clark registered 62 kills, nine aces, six blocks, 57 assists, and 85 digs.
- Alcott recorded a team-leading and career-high 16 kills.
- Pastor added 15 kills and 14 digs.
- Sterling also reached double-digits with 13 kills and blocked three shots.
- Scherrer del Llano led the team with 26 digs and added eight kills.
- Torres (28) and Dopazo (21) led the squad in assists.
