Volleyball Sweeps Fitchburg State and Hartford in Home-Opening Matches

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University volleyball team (6-3) competed in their first two home games of the 2024 season and came away with a pair of 3-0 wins over Fitchburg State (0-4) and Hartford (3-5) on Saturday afternoon from the Kneller Gymnasium.

Clark 3, Fitchburg State 0
  • The Cougars took the first set 25-14, won the second set 25-22, and topped the Falcons 25-14 in the final set.
  • The scarlet and white recorded 38 kills, 13 service aces, six blocks, 35 assists, and 37 digs.
  • Graduate student Victoria Pastor led the team with 12 kills and added six digs.
  • Senior Camille Sterling and graduate student Sofia Scherrer del Llano each tallied six kills.
  • Senior Emily Newman recorded career-highs in assists (19) and service aces (six), while tying for the team lead in digs with eight.
  • First-years Hannah Harrington and Alexandra Cohen added eight and five assists respectively.
  • Junior Yumeng Liu tied for the team lead with eight digs and added three service aces.
  • Sophomore Winifred Gakidis recorded a team-leading four blocks and added five kills.
  • Graduate student Camille Flurry, first-year Isabella Alcott, and sophomore Harper Chinn also recorded points in the match.

  • Clark won the first set 25-12, took the second set 25-18, and closed the match out with a 25-19 victory in the final set.
  • The Cougars registered 32 kills, 13 aces, two blocks, 29 assists, and 36 digs.
  • Sterling and Scherrer del Llano led the way with eight kills each.
  • Flurry added seven kills and two blocks.
  • Newman (15) and Harrington (nine) led the team in assists.
  • Liu led the squad in service aces with five and added nine digs.
What's Next
The scarlet and white will be back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Amherst for a road contest against the Mammoths beginning at 7:00 p.m.
