Men's Soccer Records 2-0 Shutout Victory Over Eastern Connecticut State

MANSFIELD, Conn. - Clark men's soccer (3-2-2) closed out a four-game road stint against Eastern Connecticut State (1-3-2) with a 2-0 victory sparked by goals in each half on Wednesday afternoon from the Mansfield Outdoor Complex.

How it Happened
  • Junior Diego Marin recorded three saves in the first five minutes of the contest and added two more stops before the 11th minute to keep the match tied at 0-0.
  • Junior Ben Siegel put Clark's first shot on target in the 18th minute that was saved by Nathan Yeich and fired another shot on goal that was stopped in the 22nd minute.
  • The Cougars took a 1-0 lead in the 30th minute when senior Lucas Saia buried a penalty kick.
  • Clark's defense held the Warriors to one more shot on target in the first half that was saved by Marin and first-year Joseph Joannou nearly doubled the lead with a shot off a corner that was stopped by Yeich as the Cougars took a 1-0 edge into the half.
  • Both defenses and midfields controlled play over the first 20 minutes of the second half before sophomore Evan Thompson found Saia and Saia passed the ball to Siegel, with Siegel finding the back of the net as Clark led 2-0 in the 67th minute.
  • Marin stopped the Warriors final two shots of the match as the Cougars came away with a 2-0 shutout victory.

  • Saia's goal was his fifth of the season and eighth as a Cougar.
