Field Hockey Falls to Simmons on Friday Night

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University field hockey team (4-2) played their first game in two days when they welcomed Simmons (6-1) to Granger Field and were edged 2-0 by the Sharks on Friday night.

How it Happened
  • The Cougars earned a penalty corner in the third minute of play when junior Jenna Beauchain sent a ball in to graduate student Rachael Romain, with Romain's shot going just wide of the target.
  • Junior Emma Macintire recorded a defensive save in the sixth minute and in the middle of the first quarter junior Ciaran Cubbage put a pair of shots on goal that were saved by Jamila Mohamed.
  • Off another corner sent in by Beauchain, junior Elizabeth Cacciapaglia fired a shot that hit the post in the 12th minute as the Cougars and Sharks were tied at 0-0 after one quarter of action.
  • First-year Kelsey Gallaway and junior Autumn Golding each put shots on goal early in the second that were stopped and after a pair of saves from sophomore Rachel Reiter, Sydney Gonyea gave Simmons a 1-0 edge.
  • The Sharks added another goal in the 23rd minute from Anna Tedeschi and before the half, Reiter stopped another shot and Cacciapaglia had a shot saved as Simmons led 2-0 at the break.
  • Beauchain sent in a pair of corners to open the third quarter and Reiter recorded four saves within a two-minute stretch in the third quarter as the Sharks took a 2-0 lead into the fourth.
  • Cubbage nearly put Clark on the board with a shot on target off a corner, but Mohamed registered a save.
  • Romain tallied the Cougars final shot on goal of the game that was stopped and both Reiter and Beauchain recorded saves late in the fourth.
