Field Hockey Drops NEWMAC Opener to No. 5 Babson

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University field hockey team (4-3, 0-1 NEWMAC) opened conference play against No. 5 Babson (5-2, 1-0 NEWMAC) and dropped the match 9-0 to the Beavers on Saturday afternoon from Granger Field.

How it Happened
  • Babson jumped out to an early 1-0 lead as Andrea Marguerite scored off a pass from Ellie Powers and after a save from sophomore Rachel Reiter, the Beavers added a second goal when Jessica Evans found the back of the cage.
  • Junior Loren Root entered the game in the second quarter stopped a shot from Helen DiGiovanni and four more shots in the quarter as the Beavers added three more goals before the half to take a 5-0 edge into the intermission.
  • Root stopped two more shots in the third quarter and junior Jenna Beauchain sent in a pair of penalty corners, with the second resulting in a shot attempt from junior Alison Kopec before Babson added another goal in the period.
  • Graduate student Greer McCarty nearly scored Clark's first goal of the match with a shot that hit the post and senior Becca Murphy put a shot on goal that was saved in the fourth quarter.
  • Junior Alexandra Cacciapaglia stopped two shots in the fourth and Beauchain registered a defensive save in the final minute of action.
