Women's Soccer Edged by Coast Guard in NEWMAC Opener

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Clark University women's soccer team (3-4-0, 0-1-0 NEWMAC) began conference play on the road at Coast Guard (1-5-1, 1-0-0 NEWMAC) and fell 1-0 off a Bear goal in the seventh minute on Saturday afternoon from Nitchman Soccer Field.

What Happened
  • Coast Guard jumped out to an early 1-0 lead as Tara Jessen scored off a feed from Mia Forti in the seventh minute.
  • First-year Georgia Louis and junior Gabriella Herivaux each created chances shortly after the Bears goal that nearly tied the match before Emily Scharnitzky collected a pair of saves.
  • Senior Anabella White stopped a shot in the 22nd minute and first-year Selene Hammad fired a shot on goal that was saved in the 31st minute.
  • Louis attempted Clark's final shot on target of the half that was saved by Scharnitzky and early in the second half, Hammad challenged Scharnitzky again, but the netminder recorded another save.
  • White came up with two more clutch saves off shot attempts from Ella Pottle and in the 64th minute, junior Emma Shaughnessy fired a shot on target that was stopped.
  • In the 80th minute, senior Cassandra Trevino attempted a shot that went just left of the mark and before the end of the match, White stopped three more shots as Clark fell 1-0.
