Field Hockey Falls to WPI on Saturday

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark University field hockey team (4-5, 0-2 NEWMAC) traveled down Park Ave to take on WPI (5-4, 2-0 NEWMAC) in an athlete ally/pride game and dropped the match 3-0 to the Engineers on Saturday afternoon from H. Carr Field.

How it Happened
  • Sophomore Rachel Reiter received the nod in goal for Clark and kept the game in a scoreless tie in the first quarter, stopping three shots.
  • After a Reiter save in the second quarter, Abbey Powers found the back of the cage off a rebound as the Engineers led 1-0 heading into the half.
  • Junior Elizabeth Cacciapaglia recorded Clark's first shot on goal of the game off a pass sent in off a corner from fellow junior Jenna Beauchain that was stopped by Myles Larkin.
  • Reiter tallied four saves after the Cacciapaglia shot before Alexandra Wolf scored with seven seconds left in the third quarter as WPI took a 2-0 edge into the fourth quarter.
  • Lauren Meinhold added the Engineers third goal of the afternoon in the 50th minute before junior Alison Kopec and graduate student Rachael Romain each put shots on goal that were stopped as Clark fell 3-0.

  • Clark attempted four shots (four on target) and earned three penalty corners.
  • Reiter recorded a career-high 12 saves.
  • Kopec led the team with two shots on goal.
  • Cacciapaglia and Romain also put shots on target.
What's Next
Clark will be back in action on Saturday, October 5 when they host Mount Holyoke for the senior day contest beginning at 2:00 p.m. from Granger Field.
