Volleyball Coasts to 3-0 Victory Over Southern Maine

GORHAM, Me. – The Clark University volleyball team (2-2) earned their second victory of the season with a convincing 3-0 victory over Southern Maine (0-4) on Wednesday night from Hill Gymnasium.

The scarlet and white took the first set 25-18, won the second set 25-12, and registered a 25-17 victory in the final set.

How it Happened
  • The Cougars jumped out to an early 8-4 lead as graduate students Sofia Scherrer del Llano and Camille Flurry combined for four points, while senior Camille Sterling also added a block.
  • After being tied 9-9, Clark secured five straight points sparked by serves from senior Yvanna Torres and a kill from Scherrer del Llano extended the edge to 17-12.
  • Graduate student Victoria Pastor registered a pair of service aces and a kill before the end of the set as the Cougars took the set 25-18.
  • Clark opened the second set with an 12-7 edge as Pastor added three more kills, a pair of service aces, and a block.
  • In the middle of the set, the Cougars rattled off six straight points as Scherrer del Llano and sophomore Katelyn Williams each registered kills as well as a block from first-year Abigail Venis gave the squad a 19-9 advantage.
  • Pastor closed the set with two more kills and a Scherrer del Llano service ace guided the team to a 25-12 win.
  • The scarlet and white and Southern Maine were tied at 7-7 early in the third set before rattling off nine straight points sparked by a pair of service aces from Torres and kills from Williams, Venis, and Scherrer del Llano to take a 16-8 edge.
  • First-year Hannah Harrington helped the Cougars win three straight points and Sterling recorded a block and kill before the end of the set as Clark won 25-17.
