Women's Basketball Closes Non-Conference Play With Loss to Connecticut College

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Clark women's basketball team (8-6) closed out non-conference play against Connecticut College (10-6) and fell 67-51 to the Camels on Tuesday night from the Kneller Gymnasium.

How it Happened
  • The Camels jumped out to an early 8-1 lead before first-year Cyriah Coleman and graduate student Alaina Schatzabel scored to help pull the team within five at 10-5.
  • Coleman buried a pair of free throws and Schatzabel/sophomore Emma Drefs each made a free throw before the end of the quarter as Clark trailed 15-9.
  • First-year Juliette Tarsa and Coleman scored the first four points of the second quarter to get back within two, but the Camels were able to push the lead back to eight with a layup made from Catie Donadio.
  • Coleman and sophomore Kailey Rios then each buried triples before the half and a pair of free throws from sophomore Olivia Shipley made it a 28-23 contest entering the break.
  • Coleman made a layup to open the half to pull withing three at 28-25, but the Camels rattled off 11 straight points before sophomore Catherine Antwi ended the run with a made layup.
  • Schatzabel scored Clark's next four points and Antwi made a layup before the end of the third, but Connecticut College held a 53-33 advantage.
  • In the fourth quarter, Rios led the way with six points, Shipley netted four, Antwi added three, Schatzabel/Coleman/Drefs also scored as the Cougars fell 67-51.

  • Clark grabbed 33 rebounds, made 12 free throws, dished out 15 assists, and forced 18 turnovers.
  • Coleman led the way with 15 points and nine rebounds,

What's Next
The Cougars are set to open NEWMAC play on Saturday afternoon when they welcome Wellesley to the Kneller for a contest beginning at 3:00 p.m.
