Men’s Soccer Slips in Tight 1-0 Match at Worcester State

WORCESTER, Mass. – Clark University men's soccer (3-4-1, 0-1-1 NEWMAC) made the short trip across the city on Wednesday night for a non-conference matchup with Worcester State University (4-5-0, 3-1-0 MASCAC). The Lancers netted the lone goal early in the second half and held off the Cougars the rest of the way to secure a 1-0 victory.

How it Happened

  • Both sides generated chances in the first half, with senior Diego Marin stopping two shots and Tobias Schneider answering with four saves to keep the match scoreless at the break.

  • The best look came from junior John Krikonis, whose strike from well beyond the 18 deflected off the crossbar, missing by just inches.

  • The Lancers ended the deadlock early in the second half, as Nick Guidi intercepted a pass in midfield, carried it into the box, and buried a shot into the bottom-left corner.

  • The Cougars pressed for an equalizer over the final 30 minutes, generating five shots on goal, but Worcester State's defense held firm to preserve the 1-0 victory.

Inside the Box Score

  • Clark held the advantage in shots with 18 shots to Worcester State's 9, they also held the edge in shots on goal with a 10-4 advantage.

  • Freshman Theo Massie-Vereker led the way with six total shots, including three shots on goal, a career-best.

  • Marin made 3 saves in goal for the Cougars.
