Women's Soccer Scores Twice in Second Half to Help Top Fitchburg State 3-1

FITCHBURG, Mass. – The Clark University women's soccer (4-2-3) scored two goals in the second half after being tied 1-1 to register a 3-1 victory over Fitchburg State (1-8-0) on Tuesday night from Elliot Field.  

How it Happened
  • The Cougars created three chances within the first 10 minutes as sophomore Georgia Louis fired a pair of shots and first-year Calabria Augustino had a shot saved by Madison Dawkins.
  • Off a corner, junior Sadie Cohen headed a shot on target that was stopped before Louis saw another one saved and fellow sophomore Solimar Rivera hit the crossbar in the 15th minute.
  • Sophomore Selene Hammad got Clark on the board in the 21st minute as Augustino found Louis, and Louis passed the ball to Hammad in the middle of the pitch as Hammad beat the goalie to her left as the scarlet and white led 1-0.
  • Rivera took over the contest over the next 15 minutes as she created five chances on goal that were saved by Dawkins and before the half both Cohen and Louis fired shots on target that were stopped as Clark took a 1-0 advantage into the break.
  • The Falcons tied the match at 1-1 in the 54th minute when Sera Gagnon scored off a feed from Adrianna Westcott.
  • After a shot that Augustino had saved by Dawkins, junior Ava Lepro tallied her first save of the match in the 61st minute.
  • In the 72nd minute, Cohen sent a ball down the right side of the pitch that found Augustino and crossed the ball into the middle for senior Gabriella Herivaux and Herivaux found the back right corner of the goal to regain the lead at 2-1.
  • Louis played a short corner to first-year Marcela Gonyea and Gonyea crossed a ball into the box that found the head of senior Emma Shaughnessy and she headed the ball into the left corner of the goal as Clark extended their edge to 3-1 in the 77th minute.
  • Shaughnessy fired the squads last shot on goal in the 87th minute that was stopped as the Cougars prevailed 3-1.
Inside the Box Score
  • Clark recorded 30 shots (19 on target), earned five corner kicks, and only allowed two shots. 
  • Hammad tallied her first goal of the year and third of her career.
  • Louis registered her sixth assist of the season and 10th as a Cougar.
  • Herivaux netted her third goal of the 2025 campaign and 14th for the scarlet and white.
  • Augustino tallied her fourth assist of the season, while Gonyea registered her first career assist.
  • Shaughnessy added her fourth goal of the year and seventh as a Cougar.
What's Next
The Cougars will return to action on Saturday afternoon when they welcome Emerson to Granger for a contest beginning at 12:00 p.m.
